StumbleUpon and Google Dice

StumbleUpon is an interesting site where you can recommend websites, webpages, blogs, blogposts, videos etc. You can also stumble upon what other has recommended and join groups of people with similar interests. Stumbling, using their toolbar, means StumbleUpon shows you pages other people have reviewed.

Rumor has it that eBay has acquired StumbleUpon. Read more about that at GigaOM, The Next Net and TechCrunch. I do hope that does not affect the StumbleUpon business idea of reviews.

StumbleUpon blogged about it on May 30, A big day… joining eBay.

Google has just launched Google Dice, Searching without a query, a new button on the Google Toolbar that looks like a pair of dice. Click on the dice, and Google will take you to a site that may be interesting to you based on your past searches. TechCrunch comments on the Dice launch like this, Google Rains On StumbleUpon Parade: Launches Direct Competitor.

Google Dice is based on your own past searches while StumbleUpon is based on recommendations. I like the review solution, a community sharing links, and prefer StumbleUpon.

If you get one of your blogposts reviewed in StumbleUpon (I have been lucky a few times) you will notice an increased number of visitors.
