WordPress and 404 (file not found)

I got 404 Notifier from Alex King’s list of WordPress Plugins. The plugin logs 404 hits on your WordPress powered site and you can choose to be notified of them via e-mail or in an RSS feed.

The plugin directly gave me some interesting information. WordPress created a 404 error on each pageview due to a missing favicon. The visitor never noticed but WordPress did. Since I believe in keeping the software running smoothly I did create my own favicon using FavIcon from Pics, a free web-based service.

While at it I personalized the 404-page in my WordPress theme, the standard text was not helpful.
