Let limitations guide you to creative solutions

I came across this text in Motivating Yourself – Heroes, Role Models & Rivals which links to the source at Embrace Constraints (37signals)

Let limitations guide you to creative solutions
There’s never enough to go around. Not enough time. Not enough money. Not enough people.

That’s a good thing.

Instead of freaking out about these constraints, embrace them. Let them guide you. Constraints drive innovation and force focus. Instead of trying to remove them, use them to your advantage.

This is a timely reminder for me. I am working at growing my own coaching business, Key Coaching, and I at times think along the lines of “there’s not enough of….”. After reading the text above I shall embrace these limitations and start working with what I have.

  1. The not enough money is a constraint/fear that I am constantly battling with myself. Definitely a work in progress. Using not enough time as a challenge rather than a constraint is interesting. Instead of using time as an excuse for not doing things, I need to think of it more in terms of how I can prioritize what I want to do.

  2. Bengt says:

Since we can not manage time all we can do is manage how we use it. I am working on using “not enough time” as a challenge instead of a constraint or an excuse.

I think we are all work in progress which is OK for me since I believe in life long learning.
